About Gatton

Currently an agricultural based town, Gatton is ideally located under an hour from Brisbane, and only 45mins from Ipswich city centre. Gatton’s current population of 6,869 along with the UQ Gatton Campus, makes it a bustling regional town.

Today, Gatton has a comprehensive shopping precinct, golf, bowling, swimming and horse racing venues, a showground, indoor sports centre, hospital, public and private primary schools and a high school plus numerous churches, a heritage museum and a civic centre.

Gatton Agricultural College, a campus of the University of Queensland, is east of the town centre and includes veterinary teaching and research facilities.

A growing community that’s perfect for families

Gatton has a range of state and private school along with multiple daycare centres.

Gatton State School opened in 1876 and caters for students from Prep to Year six. Lockyer District High School was opened in 1961 and is home to 1050 students. There are also a couple of private primary schools, Peace Lutheran Primary School and Our Lady of Good Counsel School.

The University of Queensland has a campus on the former Queensland Agricultural College site at Lawes, just to the east of the town of Gatton. This Gatton campus is now the base for much of the university’s rural-focused research and teaching.
